Moving Company Basics - For A Smooth Move

There are many moving companies that offer moving services and relocation help. Most offer free moving estimates. However, the challenge is selecting the right mover from all the available options.

An excellent source of information on movers is your corporate relocation department. Friends, co-workers and neighbors can also provide you with valuable information on their experiences on moving companies. The local Better Business Bureau is another source of information. All movers are licensed. Check with the Department of Transportation for more information. All reputable movers will provide you with references of customers. Call them and ask at least two questions. Would you use the mover in your next move? What would you do differently in your next move?

Before contacting a moving company for a quote, you should decide what is being moved. If you can eliminate heavy items, your overall moving cost will go down. Sell what is not being moved or give it away or make use of a dumpster. Finally, Goodwill or the Salvation Army are good choices for useable items. Determine what moving services you want the mover to perform. Who will do the packing? What packing supplies will the mover furnish? Living In Cyprus - Surprises and Discoveries

As the summer holiday makers start heading home, Paphos turns from a bustling Mediterranean destination back into a sleepy small town or as some say, a village. I have concluded my second consecutive summer here and anticipating the beauty of the coming autumn and winter seasons, I would like to share a few points about Cyprus for interested vacationers, people relocating and intending to buy property and live here, or anyone just interested in reading.

The thing that weighed heavy on my mind about moving to another country was learning a foreign language. Once my wife, son and I decided to move to Cyprus for the next few years and live close to our family I immediately purchased books for learning Greek. I feared the possibility of failure, but I approached it with determination and enthusiasm anyway. Unfortunately, the results were not good, any words learned were quickly forgotten. I hoped that maybe in Cyprus it would be easier. I was right, once we arrived I was able to pick up words much more easily and within weeks I had memorized forty words. At that pace by the end of the year I would be fluent which brings me to my first surprise.

My biggest surprise is that I now know less than I did before. The reasons are that most people speak English and many English speaking residents are not attempting to learn. I asked a few people about how good their Greek was, to see how long it usually takes to learn and to get some kind of average. I was very surprised to hear them tell me that they don't speak and were not going to try. People who on first impression I would of picked as someone who would learn, and quickly had no interest. I have learned a lot since I have been here and I will learn Greek, I promise.

The second thing that concerned me was the anticipated culture differences or "shock" having come from the US. We were used to many things that are not available, (good and bad) but that's another story. I feel no shock; of course we miss things such as the great television programming we were used to in America and the vast amount of choices. In Cyprus however, we have lots of real, quality, family time.

What is also surprising is the decline of the tourists in the non summer months. Yes, I know kids go back to school and parents get back to work however, to me everyone is coming here at the wrong time of year. The weather in Cyprus is absolutely wonderful all year round and the millions of tourists that visit this island only come when it's absolutely blistering hot. The only thing to do at that time is to bear it and try and stay cool, and of course tan or burn which ever you prefer.

Living most of my life in Chicago and dealing with those types of harsh winters, I feel like I live in paradise during December and January. I sell homes and as I talk to home owners listing property with me to sell, I ask what kind of heating they own so we can write it in the description. I feel silly asking but not everyone is as immune to the cold as I am and the winters are seem mild to me anyway. One message that's repeated on many websites promoting Cyprus is "340 days of Sunshine." Well they are not lying and they need to push this message a little harder.

Another surprise is the actual population, or the lack of it. I must confess that I did a lot of research about the country, I looked at statistics regarding just about every aspect of the country and the region including history and especially business related issues, trying to figure out where my experience would be best fitted. I did not consider the small local population because the one time I visited Cyprus it was during the summer months and all the hotels, apartments and villas were full of people. I did not realize that they would only remain full for such a short time.

The cost of living was yet another shock. I thought coming from the U.S. to a small country meant a lower cost of living, especially since things I associated with higher standards such as fancy malls, theme parks, zoo's, museums and theatres are not available in Cyprus. I accepted a high cost of living when I moved to Washington D.C. from Peoria, IL because there were reasons for the high price and I took advantage of them. In Cyprus, I couldn't justify the even higher cost, until now.

What is it that makes Cyprus worth the price? The answer is of course my own personal beliefs obtained from observations and conclusions I feel strongly towards. First is the lack of crime, there is a feeling of safety that I have here that I never had anywhere. I forget to lock my house doors even when I leave to go far, I leave my car windows rolled down, and I don't worry about my kids being abducted and other things you see in the news.

Second is the lack of pollution, not only are we in a country with the main source of revenue from tourism and agriculture, add the fact that we are in the middle of the Mediterranean sea, north of the least industrious continent Africa. I am not a scientist but I don't see any obvious source of pollution and I feel the difference. The final point is the lack of time my family and I spend in traffic. There is no traffic, yes there are times when a driver might do something to delay a few drivers behind him or I see the occasional accident that has brought everyone to watch and wait for the policeman to arrive to record and measure all details for his report, but that only happened once and it lasted for five minutes. The time gained is spent doing meaningful things with family and friends in a stress free, unpolluted, beautiful part of the world.

We also have a community theater. With these features Chesterfield is fast becoming an attractive tourist destination.

Chesterfield has a rapidly growing business community. The city houses more than 2000 businesses. It has the offices of Fortune 500 companies. The city has research centers and manufacturing firms. The city also has many smaller businesses. For entertainment we have county parks nearby. Chesterfield at Missouri has homes for sale in the midst of open green space and wooded hills. We have large and small houses, condominiums and apartments. There is a wide variety of architecture on offer. The price range for the housing is very wide. Many of the housing facilities include swimming pools, tennis courts, clubhouses and walking trails. The quality of life in this city is very high. For retired people there are living and nursing facilities available.

There are schools and churches in the vicinity. The facilities for education are excellent with private and public schools. The city offers education up to the university level. We have adequate medical facilities for the city. There is the St. Luke's hospital that runs on a not for profit basis. This hospital has been here since 1975. It is one of America's best hospitals. There is also residential care on offer and medical facilities for children.

Relocating? Here Are 5 Things to Consider

Relocating is exciting for some and a big problem for others. There are many reasons for this. You may move for a career opportunity, to move into a bigger home, or even to start a new life. You might be really looking forward to moving to a new area, meeting new people, and having new experiences. But if it is not carefully planned, relocation and runaway relocation costs can turn what could be a smooth move into a difficult and stressful experience.

Here are 5 key things to consider to make your moving and relocation an overall stress free experience:

1. Whenever you make the final decision to move, consider the possible changes in living costs in the new area. Things like utility costs (you may be considering moving into a larger home in a warmer or colder climate) commuting costs (there can be as much as .50 a gallon or more in gas costs state to state) or higher state and local taxes all can take a big bite out of a new salary. You want to be sure that you can afford to live in the new area, and that your new job will pay you accordingly or if moving to retire, won't eat up your planned retirement income.

Don't forget to factor in all the relocation costs of the move. Is it a corporate relocation with a relocation package and everything reimbursed or are you going to be paying for the moving van and everything associated with the move?

2. After you've made the decision, make a checklist, with as accurate as possible calendar of all the things you need to do. For example, important documents such as warranties, tax records, receipts, medical records, genealogy documents are just some of the items that should be set aside and kept safe. Get referrals from you doctor and dentist on professionals at your new location. Establish a bank account at the new location (maybe you'll get lucky and you present bank has a branch in your new area).

3. Hire a moving company with a great reputation. Ask friends and have the prospective moving company give you the names of three recent customers. Call the customers to get their experiences. Problems, how were they solved? Did the company back up their promises? Check with the BBB. If the company is not competent enough, you might end up in a long drawn out mess. Have all the costs and payment methods in writing and upfront. You don't want to have the moving company damage your belongings with no quick method of getting the item fixed or you compensated for the loss.

Most moves occur in the summer, so if possible try to move at other times of the year. You will be more likely to have the first team making your move.

4. If renting, you may not want to cancel your existing lease too soon. Your travel date may be postponed or some other unplanned contingency may come up. You will end up sleeping on the street. Build in some extra time in your moving plans. Also, if you own a home, don't make the closing timeline to tight. If possible, make the relocation first and then go back for the closing later. Build some time into your moving plan so the new home is vacant for the time it would take for you to remove wallpaper, paint, and have carpeting replaced or floors refinished. (Nothing raises more havoc with the new move than having to move furniture while you paint and do other renovations.)

5. In the new area find an experienced Realtor who really knows the entire area. Interview, by phone, at least three Realtors from the new area. Write out your questions before the phone interview. Pick the best, but if the first three come up short find three more to interview. (The internet is great for sourcing Realtors). The right Realtor with a broad knowledge of the whole area will help you focus on homes that match your financial and other requirements.

6. (Bonus if you have children) Most of the time, children resist changing their neighborhood. They have friends they do not want to leave. They are comfortable with their school. However, keep them informed on the decision making process. If possible take them on a trip to the new area. Be positive and explain they will still have their bed and toys and other familiar things. If you're positive about the move they will pick up on your attitude.

Spain receives 40 million visitors every single year because it is just such a fabulous country. Why not create a file or folder where you can collect important information about your move? Don't neglect any avenue of information. Gather together as much as you can, then read and select the good stuff and abandon anything that seems irrelevant.

Attleboro is located in southeastern Massachusetts. Bangor, Maine is named for an Irish hymn entitled "Bangor." This hymn was supposed to have been the favorite of Pastor Seth Noble who traveled to Boston with the initial intention of naming the town Sunbury.

During the 19th Century, Maine's forest provided supplies of lumber that brought wealth to the region. By the 1850s, Bangor was considered the lumber capital of the world and was one of the busiest ports on the East Coast. Bangor was very much engaged in shipbuilding and commerce during these years.

By the twentieth century, the shipbuilding industry was transformed by the steam and steel industries. Bangor's sawmills and shipyards gave way to today's dominant forest industry of pulp and paper.

Today, Bangor is the commercial and social center of Northern, Central and Eastern Maine, and is the region's largest center of retail and service businesses. It is also a center for government, education, and employment offering residents a widely diversified economy. Unemployment normally is below both the state and federal rates.

The largest employment categories are in services, wholesale/retail trade, and government. There are also strong employment opportunities in manufacturing, transportation and utilities, construction, finance, insurance, and real estate.

Health care in the area is represented by Eastern Maine Medical Center, St. Joseph's Hospital, Acadia Hospital and the Bangor Mental Health Institute.

Cost of Living in Bangor, Maine

It is moderate when compared to the New England Region as a whole. The median single family home sells for approximately $120,000. Two bedroom apartments rent at approximately $550 to $600 per month. This rent often includes heat, water and sewer.

Public water on the average is about $10 per month with public sewer service costing about $30. More rural areas are served by private wells and septic systems. Most of the homes are heated with oil. Prices vary. Electricity in Maine has been deregulated and prices vary with market conditions.

Transportation

There is easy access to the Main Coast via I-95, and I-395 that connects to State Route 1-A and onto the Maine Coast. Canada is 90 minutes away on State Route 9.

Bangor International Airport offers over 50 flights a day to and from major cities in the Northeast, national and regional hubs, and Florida and the Caribbean.

Inter-city bus services is provided by Concord Trailways and Greyhound with frequent service to Boston and beyond. The services provide direct connections to Amtrak in either Portland, Maine or Boston.

The BAT Community Connector provides local bus service to the communities of Bangor, Brewer, Hampden, Veazie, Orono and Old Town. This service is operated by the City of Bangor and is especially convenient for those who prefer not to rely on private transportation. The BAT serves many of the major employment and activity centers that include Bangor Mall and the University of Maine at Orono.

Augusta, the state capital of Maine, is about an hour away from Bangor. Portland is two hours away. Saint John New Brunswick is three hours away from Bangor. Boston and Montreal are four to five hours from Bangor, Maine.

Climate

Bangor, Maine enjoys four seasons. Temperatures rise into the 70's by late May/early June. Temperatures rarely rise above 90 in the summer. Temperatures gradually cool through October and November with wintry weather returning around Thanksgiving. In December nighttime lows are often below freezing and daytime highs in the 30's and 40's. January and February bring the most of wintry weather. Below zero temperatures are possible but infrequent and rarely last for any length of time.

Snow: Crews normally have the streets plowed and sanded within 6 hours of the end of a storm. Even during the heaviest snowfalls, streets are maintained so essential business can continue. Most school districts in the area plan for three to five snow days per year. It is relatively rare for shops and businesses to close because of snow and the weather.

Winter weather offers a variety of outdoor activities in and near Bangor, Maine that includes ice skating to crossing country skiing, snowmobiling and ice fishing.

In conclusion, Bangor, Maine is a very nice area to live and work.

Brewster is rich in culture and history. It is a small quintessential town that boasts some of the finest lodgings, shops, golf courses and restaurants on the Lower Cape. Brewster was named after Elder William Brewster, who was one of the original pilgrims aboard the Mayflower.

Brewster is an ideal location on Cape Cod Bay. Its seafaring past has earned Brewster the nickname of "Sea Captain's Town." Many of Brewster's residents in the 18th and 19th centuries made their living at sea. It was a lively economic center having packet boats frequently sailing between Breakwater Beach in Brewster and Boston. The residents who flourished during this time built stately homes that still grace Old King's Highway today.

Among the town's many historical, cultural and natural gems is the Stony Brook Grist Mill, the Crosby Mansion, The Brewster Flats, Nickerson state Park, the Herring Run, and the Higgins Farm Windmill.

Brewster, Massachusetts on the Cape Cod Bay has two museums, which are the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, and the Brewster Historical Society Museum as well as the Cape Rep Theatre.

There are antique and gift shops along with restaurants that serve the finest, freshest seafood and other fare. Stroll down Main Street as it meanders through the town.

You might want to visit Brewster's information center located in the rear of the Brewster Town Offices on 2198 Main Street. The center is open 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily in the summer season, and a shorter week the remainder of the year. At the center you will find information about Brewster, everything from accommodations to shopping to attractions.

Public Transportation: The FLEX bus service provides transportation for the Lower to Outer Cape and can connect with bus service to Hyannis and points off Cape Cod, Boston, etc. year round.

• Brewster Ladies' Library: Housed in a restored Victorian Building built in 1868. It is a source of information and services for the entire family.
• Bay Beaches: Public beaches on Cape Cod Bay start from the east end of town and include Crosby Landing, Linnell Landing, Ellis Landing, Breakwater Beach, Saint's Landing, Robbins Hill Beach, and Paines Creek Beach

Breckenridge Real Estate Climbs To Great New Heights

The pristine alpine environment that gives Breckenridge, Colorado its breath-taking scenery will soon be home to an equally spectacular residential development, the latest addition to this magnificent mountain village. Interested parties will have to act fast: Peak 7's Crystal Peak Lodge has already sold all 46 units, at a price of $928/square foot; the Lodge is slated for completion by December 2008. But fear not, as some of the biggest plans are for Peak 8, the main base of the ski area.

Plans for development on Peak 8 include six or seven medium height (three to five stories) multi-purpose buildings. Ground floor space is dedicated to services for residents - restaurants and boutiques, shops and cafes. The upper floors will, of course, be filled with a range fo condos, from studios to luxurious four bedroom homes. All in all there will be 325,000 square feet of residential space, as well as 14,000 square feet of commercial space, and a whopping 48,000 dedicated to services for skiers. This is the sort of project that Breckenridge has been waiting for.

According to Alex Iskenderian, Vice President of Development, the real estate climate in Breckenridge is finally at the point where developers are able to build the buildings they have always wanted. Hinting, perhaps, at even greater things to come, Iskenderian noted, I think this is going to take the market to the next level." Prospective buyers take note.

An indication of the grandeur to be expected of this new Peak 8 development is to be found in the project's centerpiece, simply titled, "801". This building will include no less than 90 ski-in, ski-out residences, ranging in size form studios to four bedrooms. 801 amenities will include a large yet elegant conference space, extensive fitness and aquatic facilities, a bowling alley, and a media room. Construction is scheduled to start in May of 2008. Some have expressed concerns that the splendor of this project will overshadow the rest of the town, but developers contend that Peak 8 will enhance both business and real estate in Breckenridge.

Developers realize that the success of their project depends on the continued success of Breckenridge as a whole. Abandoning vs. Surrendering a Foreclosure Home

Some homeowners, when the know they will no longer be able to afford their home, decide that they will simply move out of the house. They may do this for a number of reasons: the bank may be calling them incessantly and they want an escape, they may believe that moving out will allow the bank to take the home back quicker, or they may just have found another place to live. Abandoning a home to foreclosure, though, is often the least desirable option when attempting to stop foreclosure. Surrendering the house through a deed in lieu of foreclosure will have much the same end results in terms of allowing the homeowners to move out and move on with their lives, but they will also be able to preserve a small amount of their credit, as well.

If the foreclosures victims just move out and abandon the home, this action will not surrender the title to the home. It is simply abandoning the property. The foreclosure process will continue since the foreclosure victims are still the legal owners of the house and the bank will have to take it back through the court system. Just moving out does not transfer ownership, as they could move out to rent the house to a tenant, go on vacation for a month, or any other reason. The bank and the court have no ability to take the house back just because the homeowners are no longer living there, as they have no real way of knowing why the homeowners moved out, or if they will return. Unless the foreclosure victims let the bank know that they have abandoned the house, the bank will simply believe that their phone calls and letters are continuing to be ignored by the foreclosure victims.

The mortgage company can, however, change the locks and prevent the house from vandalism if the foreclosure victims have moved out. This is not considered taking the property back but protecting the lender's interest in having a property that is not destroyed by thieves and vandals. In addition, the bank will not receive title to the home by having the locks changed, because there is still no transfer of ownership rights. The homeowners are simply assumed to have abandoned the house and the bank has the right to protect the collateral for the loan. In most cases, if the homeowners return to the property after the locks are changed, they can contact the court system or the county sheriffs department to regain entry into the house -- they are still the legal owners so they have the right to possess the property even throughout the foreclosure process.

Moving out of the house and going through the foreclosure process will have the same negative effects on the homeowners' credit as if they stayed in the house and went through foreclosure. A foreclosure will show on their credit report and will drag down their credit scores. Simply moving out, because it does not materially affect the foreclosure process itself as it works through the courts, will do nothing to help the homeowners either stop foreclosure on the home or recover their credit. In fact, homeowners may as well stay in the property and begin saving up an emergency fund or paying down other debts to utilize their time in the house in the most effective way. Even if they can not afford the mortgage, it may be better to make good on other debts, such as car loans or credit cards, rather than take on a new housing payment or renting an apartment right away.

Surrendering a house is usually done with a deed in lieu of foreclosure, and is done before the house is sold at sheriff sale. Homeowners can call their lender to offer the deed in lieu of foreclosure, and the bank will evaluate whether to accept or not. A deed in lieu will be slightly better on the homeowners' credit, because they did at least something to avoid the entire foreclosure process, even if it was merely giving the property back and admitting that they could not afford the mortgage any longer. The fact that this option will allow the lender to avoid a costly legal battle will give the foreclosure victims a slightly less negative mark on their credit, though, as it shows they worked with the bank to transfer the property and give the collateral back instead of face foreclosure.

Abandoning a home does not affect the foreclosure process or its negative consequences. A deed in lieu can effectively surrender a house to the bank. This makes offering the bank a deed in lieu of foreclosure a much wiser decision for the long-term financial health of the foreclosure victims. Rather than leaving the house before the foreclosure process is over, homeowners can stay until the transfer is completed, using the time to get out of debt, save up an emergency fund, or otherwise improve their financial health. Once the deed is transferred to the bank, the homeowners will then be free to move out of the house, having found a solution to stop foreclosure and avoid the more devastating effects of the foreclosure process.

This section of the trail, up to the NH border is shared with the Mid State Trail (both trails recently re-located to share the same path. Climb down towards Binney Pond, and then climb Pratt Mountain. At this point is described an overlook spectacular for hikers.

The Wapack Trail eventually brings you down to the Windblown XC Ski Area. You need a trail pass for this hike. There is permission to hike for spring to fall.

Ashburnham, Massachusetts is just an hour's drive from Boston, and 200 miles from New York City.

The estimated median household income in Ashburnham, Massachusetts is about $65,000. People living in Ashburnham are mostly white Non-Hispanic, with a very few Hispanics and two or more other races.

Acushnet is in Bristol County and was originally an agricultural community. The residential Town of Acushnet has retained its rural atmosphere while providing a home for various industries. The name "Acushnet" is also the name of the river the town lies on, and comes from the Wampanoag "Cushnea," which means "peaceful resting place near water. This meaning designated the fact that the tribe which sold the land to the Puritans inhabited the lands leading up to the river.

In the 1800s the town of Acushnet was the site of water powered factories and boat yards. In the 1990s the town became home to construction, manufacturing and agri-aquaculture industries.

The Acushnet Process Company was founded in 1910, now the Acushnet Company. The Acushnet Company is one of Southeastern Massachusetts's most enduring industries. They own the Titleist brand name, under which golf balls, golf clubs, and other golf paraphernalia are marketed.

Acushnet is a quiet and friendly community of fewer than 10,000 people with miles and miles of winding, country roads. Acushnet, Massachusetts has two schools which are:

• The Acushnet Elementary School (grades from preschool to 4th grade)
• The Albert F. Ford Middle School (grades 5th to 8th)
